Into Africa

17 February - 10 June 2007

Major unique exhibition curated by Harry Lyons - well known Christopher Dresser expert examining the textile designs of Dresser for the African market in the late 19th century. The exhibition sets the amazing designs in context with African textile history, the Lancashire cotton trade and modern exports. Richly illustrated with over 40 mounted textile samples dating to the 1880's from the patent office collections of the National Archives.

 

Also many African textiles from the Horniman Museum, London and Dorman Museum collections as well as modern examples from A. Brunnschweiler & Co., textile manufacturers. Definitely one not to be missed! Workshops for curriculum studies from KS1 -3, this exhibition is a must for anyone studying African design.
