TRIPTYCH ON DISPLAY
After extensive conservation a 19th Century copy of Hans Memling's 'The Floriens Triptych' of 1479 has gone on display in the main corridor of the museum. The painting came from the Magi Altar of the former St. Mary's Roman Catholic cathedral, Sussex Street, Middlesbrough.
The painting is executed on a tin base to a very high calibre. The copy artist is unknown.
WINTER OPENING HOURS
The museum is now operating winter opening hours from 1st November to 31st March. The museum will open and close one hour earlier to enable visits to be made during daylight hours.
TEACHER'S PACK AVAILABLE
A new teacher's pack has been produced by the education staff at the museum with the help of local teachers. The new pack includes information, worksheets and activity trails based around the Town in Time exhibition galleries. The pack is available from the museum shop priced at £3.50 or £5.00 mail order.
CHRISTOPHER
DRESSER EXHIBITION
The exhibition ' The First Industrial Designer' has now opened. It looks at
the work of the major Victorian designer Christopher Dresser and there are around
200 items on show from textiles to ceramics, glass to metalware, wallpaper to
books. The exhibition ends 27th February 2005.
DRESSER'S LINTHORPE 2008/9
The museum is planning the most comprehensive exhibition of Dresser designed Linthorpe Pottery ever to take place. The museum is looking to make contact with owners of unusual pieces that could be included in the exhibition. To coincide with the exhibition a comprehensive full colour book illustrating the output of the factory is also planned. CAFÉ
The cafe is now operating and offering a range of snacks and meals for all tastes.
The cafe also offers catering for groups visiting the museum or using the educational
facilities
GEOLOGICAL
COLLECTIONS
The museum has secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a three year
project to add records and digital images of the fossil collections to the collection
database. Records will be added to the on-line collection database available
shortly through this web. Approximately 30,000 specimens will be documented
as part of this project.
