The Thirza vase.            How did it get that name?

The Thirza vase is one of many Linthorpe Pottery vases designed by the pioneering Victorian designer Christopher Dresser, who took a lot of his inspiration from the natural environment.
When we have school children in the gallery we always ask the question, “Look at this pot what do you see? Where in nature do you think Dresser got his ideas from?” The children’s response is always the same “it looks like our mam when she is very annoyed at us!”  So we named this style of pot the Thirza vase in honour of Christopher Dresser’s wife Thirza, who by the way had 13 children with him!!!!!
